    Costa Blanca overview

The Costa Blanca is situated on the southeastern coast of Spain, with its name originating from the white sandy beaches and cliffs along its beautiful coastline. The area boasts a rich history and culture, and the civilisations that have inhabited it have left their mark on the region, including the Phoenicians, Romans and Moors.

The area’s history is still showcased today in the lively parades and customs of traditional festivals such as Fallas, and the Moors and Christians festival. Today, with its tourist infrastructure, fascinating culture and beautiful coastline, it’s a holiday favourite for many tourists from around the world.

    What to eat

The local food scene is heavily influenced by Mediterranean flavours and ingredients, so expect a delicious array of dishes with fresh seafood, vegetables and salad. Don’t miss trying the quintessential Spanish dish paella, popular in the Valencia region.

To sample a range of small plates, visit some of the local tapas restaurants and sample dishes like patatas bravas (fried potatoes with spicy tomato sauce), calamares a la romana (fried squid) and albondigas (meatballs).

To satisfy a sweet tooth, try turrón, a delicious sweet nougat made from almonds, sugar and honey, or for a more refreshing alternative, try some of the fresh fruits grown locally in the region. The Costa Blanca caters for all tastes, so if you’re taking a family holiday and travelling with kids, there will be plenty of other cuisine options available too.
