Peak: Nov–Feb

The best time to visit most of Thailand. Skies are clear, humidity is lower, and temperatures are pleasantly warm — ideal for Bangkok, Chiang Mai, and the Gulf Coast beaches.

Shoulder: Mar–Apr & Oct

Still warm and largely sunny, though temperatures rise in March and April. Koh Samui and the Gulf Coast remain a good option in October when the Andaman side sees more rain.

Wet season: May–Sep

Hot and humid with heavy rainfall, particularly on the Andaman Coast. Inland destinations like Chiang Mai and cultural sites remain enjoyable, and prices are at their lowest.

    Thailand overview

Thailand has a rich history spanning more than 700 years and is one of the few countries in Southeast Asia never to have been colonised by a European power. This unique heritage has helped preserve its traditions, architecture and royal customs, all of which remain central to Thai life today.

Buddhism plays an important role across the country, reflected in thousands of beautifully decorated temples and daily rituals that visitors are welcome to observe respectfully. Traditional festivals such as Songkran, the Thai New Year, and Loy Krathong, when illuminated baskets float along rivers, offer unforgettable glimpses into local culture.

Alongside its traditions, modern Thailand embraces vibrant cities, luxury shopping and contemporary dining, creating a fascinating blend of old and new.
