When to Go
Tunisia enjoys a warm Mediterranean climate along its northern and coastal regions, with long dry summers and mild winters that make it a popular year-round destination. Spring and autumn offer the most comfortable temperatures for combining beach time with exploring the country's remarkable Roman ruins and medinas. Peak: Jun–Aug
The hottest and sunniest months, with long beach days on the resorts of Hammamet, Sousse, and Djerba Island. Sea temperatures are at their warmest and the coastal resorts are at their most lively.
Shoulder: Mar–May & Sep–Nov
Warm and comfortable, with ideal conditions for exploring the ancient Roman amphitheatre at El Jem, the medinas of Tunis and Sfax, and the desert landscapes of the south. Fewer visitors and excellent value.
Winter sun: Dec–Feb
Mild and sunny by northern European standards, with average temperatures of around 14°C on the coast. A rewarding time for sightseeing, Sahara excursions, and exploring Tunisia's remarkable archaeological sites at a relaxed pace.

Tunisia Overview
Tunisia has a rich history, shaped by Phoenician, Roman, Arab, Ottoman and French influences. The ruins of ancient Carthage, close to Tunis, are among its best-known historic sights, while Roman sites such as El Jem reveal another remarkable side to the country’s past.
Traditional culture is easy to experience in the medinas of Hammamet, Sousse and Tunis, where narrow lanes lead to markets selling ceramics, spices, leather goods and locally made crafts. Coastal resorts offer relaxed holiday living, while excursions open up a country full of history and character.

May to October is ideal for beach holidays, with the hottest weather usually arriving in July and August. Spring and autumn are great for customers who want warm sunshine with more comfortable temperatures for sightseeing, golf and exploring.
Winter is cooler but still mild compared with the UK, particularly along the coast.
Tunisian food is full of Mediterranean flavour, with fresh vegetables, olive oil, seafood and warming spices featuring in many dishes. Couscous is a staple, often served with vegetables, meat or fish, while grilled seafood is popular in coastal resorts.
Look out for brik, a crisp pastry filled with egg, tuna or cheese, and harissa, the spicy chilli paste found across Tunisia. Sweet pastries, dates and mint tea are also well worth trying.
