When to Go
Belgium is a compact and rewarding destination that punches well above its size, with medieval cities, world-class beer and chocolate, and some of Europe's finest Christmas markets. It rewards visitors year-round, with two distinct seasonal highlights — summer and the festive season — that are very different but equally special. Summer: Jun–Aug
The warmest and most lively months, with outdoor terraces, canal boat trips in Bruges and Ghent, and long evenings in Brussels' Grand Place. Summer festivals bring music, food, and culture to cities and towns across the country.
Christmas markets: Nov–Dec
Belgium's Christmas markets are among Europe's most enchanting. Brussels' Winter Wonders market transforms the Grand Place and surrounding streets, while Bruges, Ghent, and Liege each host their own wonderfully atmospheric festive markets from late November.
Shoulder: Mar–May & Sep–Oct
Mild and pleasant, with spring blossom in the parks of Brussels and comfortable temperatures for exploring the battlefields of Flanders, the medieval streets of Bruges, and Antwerp's world-class diamond and fashion districts.

Belgium’s location at the heart of Europe has shaped a country with a rich and varied history. Brussels is home to key European institutions, grand historic buildings and a thriving arts scene, while Brugge reflects the country’s medieval past through its canals, market squares and beautifully preserved architecture.
