Bali has a tropical climate with two distinct seasons — a dry season and a wetter season — though the island's warmth, lush scenery, and cultural richness make it a rewarding destination year-round. The dry season from May to September is the most popular time to visit, with reliably sunny skies and lower humidity. Use the strip below as a quick at-a-glance guide, then read on for the detail.
The best time to visit, with dry sunny days, lower humidity, and calm seas ideal for surfing, snorkelling, and exploring the rice terraces of Ubud. July and August are the busiest months, so book accommodation and excursions well ahead.
Warm and largely sunny with some passing showers, particularly in the evenings. A wonderful time to explore Bali's temples, cooking schools, and spa retreats with fewer visitors and more competitive prices than peak season.
Hot, humid, and with daily tropical downpours, usually in the afternoons. The island is extraordinarily lush and green, waterfalls are at their most dramatic, and prices are at their lowest. Temples, cooking classes, and cultural experiences are just as rewarding in the rain.
Stylish beach clubs, excellent restaurants and boutique hotels make Seminyak ideal for a lively Bali escape.
Bali is known as the Island of the Gods, and its Hindu traditions are central to everyday life. You will see colourful offerings outside homes and shops, temple ceremonies, traditional dance performances and intricately decorated shrines across the island.
Balinese culture is shaped by a strong sense of community and a close connection with nature. Ubud is a brilliant place to experience the island’s arts and crafts, while visiting a temple or watching a traditional performance offers a memorable insight into Bali beyond the beach.
Bali has a warm tropical climate all year round. The dry season generally runs from April to October, bringing sunny days, lower humidity and excellent conditions for sightseeing, beach time and outdoor activities.
November to March is the wetter season, with hotter temperatures and short, heavy tropical showers. The island stays lush and green, and rain often falls later in the day, so it can still be a great time for a holiday.
Bali’s food is fresh, fragrant and full of variety, from traditional Indonesian dishes to excellent international dining. Local favourites include nasi goreng fried rice, satay skewers, mie goreng noodles and babi guling, a Balinese-style roast pork dish.
Fresh seafood is popular along the coast, while Ubud is known for its cafés and wellness-led food scene. Look out for tropical fruit, freshly made juices and rich Indonesian coffee, as well as relaxed beachfront dining at sunset.
