The euro (EUR) is the official currency used across many European countries. It's one of the major currencies in the world and is used daily by millions of people both within and outside of Europe.

The euro is the official currency in 20 of the 27 European Union countries, forming what's known as the Eurozone.

Banknotes are issued in €5, €10, €20, €50, €100, €200, and €500 notes, though the €500 note is rarely used and may not be accepted in some places. For everyday purchases, most travellers find €10, €20, and €50 notes the most convenient.

The amount you'll need depends on where you're going, your travel style, and your plans. Western and Northern Europe tend to be more expensive, while countries in Eastern or Southern Europe can offer better value. On average, budget travellers may need around €50–€70 per day, while those looking for a more comfortable stay should budget upwards of €100–€150 per day. It’s a good idea to carry a mix of cash and card for flexibility, especially for smaller purchases or places that don’t accept cards.

While the Euro is the official currency of many EU countries, some European nations still use their own currencies. These include the United Kingdom (British Pound), Denmark (Danish Krone), Sweden (Swedish Krona), Norway (Norwegian Krone), Switzerland (Swiss Franc), Poland (Polish Zloty), Hungary (Hungarian Forint), Czech Republic (Czech Koruna), Romania (Romanian Leu), and Bulgaria (Bulgarian Lev), among others.
