When to Go
Tenerife is one of the few destinations that genuinely earns the title of year-round sunshine, thanks to its position off the coast of Africa and its warm, stable climate. Whether you visit in January or July, warm temperatures and plenty of sun are almost guaranteed. Use the strip below as a quick at-a-glance guide, then read on for the detail.
Peak: Jun–Sep
The hottest and busiest months, with long sunny days, warm Atlantic waters, and a lively resort atmosphere along the south coast. Playa de las Americas and Los Cristianos are at their most vibrant.
Winter sun: Oct–May
Tenerife's great strength as a year-round destination. Temperatures rarely drop below 20°C even in January, making it one of Europe's best winter sun escapes. February brings the spectacular Santa Cruz Carnival, one of the world's largest.

Although best known for its year-round sunshine, Tenerife has a fascinating history shaped by Spanish, African and Latin American influences. The island was originally inhabited by the Guanche people before becoming part of Spain in the 15th century. The greener north experiences slightly cooler temperatures and occasional rainfall, creating lush landscapes around Puerto de la Cruz and the foothills of Mount Teide.
