Kos has a fascinating history stretching back thousands of years, with ancient Greek, Roman, Byzantine and medieval influences still visible across the island today.

It is particularly famous as the birthplace of Hippocrates, the ancient Greek physician widely regarded as the father of medicine. The island's impressive Asklepieion became an important centre for healing and medical teaching in antiquity.

Around Kos Town you'll discover archaeological remains alongside medieval architecture, including ancient ruins, Roman sites and the imposing Castle of the Knights overlooking the harbour.

Kos enjoys a classic Mediterranean climate, with long, hot and dry summers followed by mild winters.

The main holiday season runs from May through to October, with July and August bringing the hottest temperatures and plenty of sunshine. June and September are excellent choices for warm beach weather with slightly milder conditions.

Spring and early autumn are particularly good for exploring the island, sightseeing and cycling, while the sea remains comfortably warm well into the later part of the season.
