Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines Holidays

Fred. Olsen was founded by the Olsen brothers in 1848, and the family, friendly and homely feel is still present in Fred. Olsen’s ships today. On a Fred. Olsen cruise, every staff member will make an effort to get to know you by name, go to great lengths to make you smile and tailor the cruise to your needs, so you will want to book again before you disembark.

There are many stories of friendships that have been cemented onboard and then shared over a lifetime of repeat trips.  With a variety of entertainment including live performances, onboard shows and fine dining experiences, there is never a dull moment.

Where to Cruise To and From

Fred. Olsen is famous for themed cruises, sailing to the most incredible destinations with experts onboard to help you to make the most of them.

Fred. Olsen sets sail to a wide variety of locations, so you can choose from the Amazon, the Arctic and Greenland, the Baltic states, the Canary Islands and West Africa, the Caribbean, Europe, Iberia, Iceland, the Mediterranean, Norway, Northern Europe, North America and Canada, and the UK and Ireland.

There are even some mini-cruises that you could choose to go on if you have not got time to go on a full cruise, where you can explore some places a little closer to home, such as France, Belgium and parts of the UK.

You can set sail on your cruise from Southampton, Liverpool, Dover, Newcastle, Greenock in Glasgow and Rosyth in Edinburgh with Fred. Olsen

There are four liners as part of the Fred. Olsen family, which include the Balmoral, the Boudicca, the Black Watch and the Braemar, all of which offer luxury accommodation and dining experiences, along with fantastic entertainment and leisure activities to keep the whole family busy throughout your holiday.

We would be happy to book your cruise holidays with Fred. Olsen and talk you through some of our offers, last-minute deals and cheap cruise getaways.

Balmoral, the largest and most recent addition to the Fred. Olsen fleet, offers passengers a classic, relaxing cruise experience. First launched in 1987, and refitted in 2008, she can accommodate over 1,300 passengers across 10 decks.

Proudly bearing the name of Fred. Olsen Jnr's great-great-grandmother, Bolette harbours an historic connection to the Olsen family. Exuding classic, elegant style in her exterior and interior design, and featuring spacious and comfortable public areas, as well as just 690 cabins, Fred Olsen's flagship leads the fleet of smaller ships by example.

Thanks to her ability to cruise at higher speeds than other ships, Borealis – sister ship of the flagship Bolette – is perfectly suited for sailing our longer voyages across the globe. Cruising faster means she can include more stops, scenic discoveries and highlights into each itinerary.

Launched in 1993 and refitted in 2008, Braemar is a small destination ship with 7 decks able to cater for 900 guests. With large windows, polished wood, shining brass fittings and classic fabrics, Balmoral offers a charming, traditional feel.

Fred. Olsen Cruise Holidays Information

Key information: The Fred. Olsen cruise line is world-renowned for its comfortable, luxurious and traditional cruising experience. Its smaller ships mean that their onboard service is more attentive than those with larger cruise ships. Additionally, along with the onboard service, they also offer varied itineraries to suit all preferences. If you are looking for a comfortable, traditional and unique way to experience the waterways of the world, then a Fred. Olsen cruise can provide everything you need for a perfect cruise holiday.

Cruises available: Fred. Olsen currently operates four cruise ships which can take you across the world. You can experience the beauties of Africa, Asia, Australasia, Europe, North America and South America. This cruise line can also depart from UK ports during summer time which can be more convenient than flying to your destination to begin sailing.

The ideal time to go: For those that are looking for the perfect Mediterranean cruise with Fred. Olsen, the months July and August are the hottest months and provide the most amount of sunshine. Although there may be more tourists at this time of the year, you can also expect more activities and attractions to be open at local ports. If you are looking for a cheap Mediterranean cruise, then the off-peak months can provide fewer tourists, lower rates and cooler weather.

Currency: The currency that is used on board the cruise ships is the British Pound Sterling (£). If you are planning on purchasing souvenirs from the local ports, you may want to bring the local currency.

Fun fact: The Fred. Olsen cruise line began in 1848 as a vessel for transporting timber and ice to Britain.

Top tip: If you are looking for a more adventurous cruise holiday, then you may want to consider their themed cruises. They have a ‘Mystery Cruise’ which is a themed cruise event, where the itinerary is influenced by the passengers once it has set sail.
