Santa Cruz de Tenerife Holidays

As the capital city of Tenerife, Santa Cruz has a more urban feel to it than some of the island’s other holiday resorts. There’s the impressive mountainous backdrop and the picturesque beaches of course, but in between the two you can enjoy more culture, attractions, and historic buildings than during your average trip to Tenerife. A Santa Cruz holiday is a stunning seafront experience, with jaw-dropping beauty on all sides and perfect weather warming the island throughout the year. Fine dining and a fun nightlife await you too, with plenty to attract couples seeking seclusion and romance, families looking forward to a scenic beach holiday, and groups wanting a more authentic Tenerife experience outside of the more vibrant partying that takes place around Playa de las Américas.

Great for…

Nature lovers – The rugged mountains, the sub-tropical rainforests, the beautiful waters, and the teeming wildlife

Beautiful beach fans – The resort’s 5 main beaches are edged by restaurants and lined by palm trees

Cultural types – Beautiful and distinctive buildings, a varied arts scene, and intriguing museums

Iberostar Grand Mencey

This accommodation is proudly the only 5* hotel in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. Just 10 minutes’ walk from the city centre, you’re in prime position to enjoy the resort. You may find yourself spending more time sunning yourself by the pool, feasting at a hotel restaurant, getting pampered in the spa, or even learning how to cook up a culinary masterpiece in the cookery classroom.

Colon Rambla

This pleasant 4* hotel offers great service from the friendly staff, who’ll serve you while you lounge in the sun and enjoy the attractive gardens. It’s spacious and offers great views over the Ramblas, and the wellness centre is ideal for relaxing in.

Adonis Plaza

In downtown Santa Cruz, this 3* hotel stands beside the harbour, which is edged by an impressive mountain range. A stay at the Hotel Adonis Plaza puts the best of Santa Cruz at your fingertips.

Family – There’s plenty for families to do in Santa Cruz, besides enjoying the gorgeous beaches. If your crew enjoys hiking, the city’s hills are ideal for enjoying both the wonderful scenery and the exercise. The Palmetum botanical garden is a particular highlight, which is a glorious, palm-tree-packed garden complete with waterfalls, streams, and pools. With all the beautiful beaches and lovely scenery, Santa Cruz is the perfect choice for outdoorsy families who adore the open air and the sunshine.

Couples – Couples will find opportunities for seclusion and romance in Santa Cruz, as well as cultural activities and mesmerising architecture to enjoy. The Noria district is the area of the city to visit when you and your loved one want to sample a delicious Canarian dish. At Playa de las Teresitas you can enjoy snorkelling and satisfying cafes, and at the Parque Garcia Sanabria you can stroll hand-in-hand admiring beautiful sculptures and botanical gardens. You’ll find adults only hotels in Santa Cruz too, to help keep your holiday romantic from the moment you wake to the moment you sleep.

Nightlife – A night out in Santa Cruz is not complete if it doesn’t start with tapas or something typically Canarian, which will often combine Spanish dishes with West African and South American flavours. After you have eaten, you may want to move on to one of the many bars such as Mojos y Mojitos or the trendy, stripped-back fun of Los Reunidos. While Santa Cruz may not have the full-blown party atmosphere of Playa de las Américas, it has its own addictive chic and a range of nightclubs to choose from.

Activities – A day spent mountain biking in the Anaga Mountains is hard to beat, but scuba diving in Santa Cruz’s crystal waters or something ridiculously fun like “bubble soccer” is great for friend groups and families alike. Santa Cruz’s sweeping scenery is also a great place for golf, while Teide National Park is an awe-inspiring area of the island, overflowing with unforgettable sights and wildlife. Whale- and dolphin-spotting is an exceptional way to spend your day too, bobbing on the waters in a sailing boat and snorkelling in the waters.

Culture – There’s a rewarding arts scene in Santa Cruz, including a sculpture trail for any tourists, and the Municipal Museum of Fine Arts for visitors with a taste for fine art. Some of the city’s churches are unmissably beautiful – especially the Church of the Conception on Plaza de la Iglesia. Time your holiday around one of the many festivals and events, and you can fill your holiday with fun-filled local customs and culture.

Annual events – The Santa Cruz Carnival de Tenerife is the resort’s biggest event of the year, and lasts for an awesome 12 days of wild music, colourful costumes, flamboyant dancing, and spectacular parties. Thousands of festival-goers pack the streets, ready to soak up the exuberant parades and fiestas. It isn’t all hedonism, though: the Entierro de la Sardina (Burial of the Sardine) celebrates the end of the festival, and marks a time for religious and spiritual contemplation.

Getting around – Buses are a cheap way to get around Santa Cruz and the wider island, but one of the great pleasures of a Santa Cruz holiday is a ride on the trams. Fares are similar to buses. Taxis are of course the most convenient way to get about, but also the most expensive.

Restaurante los Pinchitos – Want an authentic taste of Tenerife? You’ll find all sorts of Mediterranean, Spanish, and seafood cuisine here.

Restaurante Sagrario – This is the place to visit for fine dining in Santa Cruz – especially if you are feeling adventurous. Alongside the exquisite meats, vegetarian options, and seafood you’ll find daring dishes, like the crispy battered lamb brains!

Garimbar – Just off the main shopping streets, you’ll find Garimbar serving juicy burgers with a Spanish twist!

Panzaburro Gastrotasca – Organic, locally-produced ingredients make up these delicious meals, which are served by friendly, welcoming staff.

Nassau Gastroclub – Unique flavours and excellent service, offering treats such as avocado tartar, eggplant hummus, beef carpaccio, and more.

Playa de las Teresitas – This is a beautiful beach and one of the most popular in the Canary Islands, which was created in 1973 when 270,000 tons of white sand was shipped in from the Sahara Desert.

Playa de las Gaviotas – This black-sand beach lies beneath the Anaga mountain range, making it one of the more uniquely gorgeous beaches in Tenerife.

Playa de Antequera – The water is clean and the area remote, meaning that you can forget the hustle and bustle of the tourist areas and relish the warm weather in a breathtaking yet serene environment.

Playa del Roque de las Bodegas – This is one of the region’s busier beaches, and is extremely family-friendly. There’s some great fresh fish served at nearby restaurants.
