Puerto de la Cruz Holidays

As one of the most popular resorts in Tenerife, Puerto de la Cruz has it all. You’ll have beautiful black-sand beaches, restaurants serving up authentic local dishes, bars offering cocktails alongside relaxing live music, and plenty of daytrips to tempt you.

Puerto de la Cruz has less of a party-packed atmosphere, and is instead varied but designed to help you de-stress. Stroll through colourful subtropical gardens, lay back under the sun on a beach before diving or snorkelling in the pristine waters, then spend an evening in one of the many friendly, stylish bars.

Daytrips are a popular way to spend some of your Puerto de la Cruz holiday too, with the soaring Mount Teide an hour’s drive away and the Botanico Gardens at la Paz just a short drive out of town.

Great for…

Families – The beach and the waterparks will keep you and the little ones entertained

Romance – Puerto de la Cruz is a serene holiday destination with beaches and sophisticated bars and restaurants perfect for couples in love

Apartments Pez Azul

You’ll find these 3* apartments in a quiet residential area of Puerto de la Cruz but close to the centre of the resort. The pool is large and enticing and the bar is right beside it.

Be Smart Florida Plaza

This great value 3* aparthotel stands in the centre of the old town, which is a great location for a stay in Puerto de la Cruz. As well as having plenty of facilities including the beautiful pool, the complex is just 600 metres from the wonderful beach, Playa Jardin.

H10 Tenerife Playa

Another hotel with a fantastic location. The H10 Tenerife Playa has 2 adult pools, a children’s pool, a Jacuzzi, and a varied entertainment programme.

Family – Families love a Puerto de la Cruz holiday for its relaxing culture and the space it offers away from the bustling crowds. This laid-back resort offers a taste of the real Tenerife, and casts a soothing spell over kids and adults alike, offering days spent enjoying the beach plus natural beauty galore. Children and adults of all abilities can enjoy watersports or simply take a dip in the warm seawater if they prefer. There are some choices of All Inclusive hotels here too, some of which have kids’ clubs that can give parents and guardians plenty of time to relish the Tenerife sun while their little ones enjoy the entertainment, activities, and games on offer.

Couples – The chilled atmosphere and the beautiful scenery make Puerto de la Cruz a blissful holiday spot for couples looking for relaxation and romance. There are delicious and private restaurants to enjoy both the local cuisine and one another’s company, and if you’re looking for a party the bars are warm and welcoming without being wild. The botanical gardens make for a walk filled with exotic plants and lush waterfalls, or if you prefer architecture you can enjoy a hand-in-hand stroll through the cobbled old town of La Orotava.

Nightlife – In the evening you might want to start your night sitting in the relaxed atmosphere of one of the resort’s plazas. There are fewer party night and DJ spots here than in Playa de las Americas or Los Cristianos, but the exotic atmosphere and the stylish bars are still often busy with revellers and live music. You may want to wait until after midnight to head out, because many of the bars won’t pick up until then. In Puerto de la Cruz you’ll find bands and artists playing traditional folk music, rock, blues, salsa, and more. From the early hours of the morning and onwards, visitors and locals will often head to Avenida Familia Bethencourt y Familia, where most of the nightclubs are found.

Activities – If it’s adventure you’re looking for, there are treks, dives, and trips galore to enjoy around Puerto de la Cruz. Day trips to Mount Teide and Teide National Park are exciting expeditions, whether you’re visiting the park with an official guide or climbing towards the heavens via the peak of the mountain. According to legend, Masca Gorge used to be a pirate hideout, and you can take an epic walk from craggy top to sandy bottom in 3 hours. Whale and dolphin watching is popular, alongside surfing, snorkelling with turtles, and scuba diving.

Culture – As the oldest resort in Tenerife, Puerto de la Cruz is a beautiful hub of history and traditional architecture. Religious buildings such as the church Nuestra Senora del la Pena de Francia are visited by tourists and couples looking to marry, while Casa de Miranda is a plush Renaissance palace. The Castillo de San Felipe is a small but impressive fortress which is open to visitors, and the Museo de Arte Contemporaneo Eduardo Westerdahl showcases a range of pieces of art from local artists, Spain, and international names.

Annual events – This is the place to go for a true fiesta! The local carnival in February is focused around the harbour and Plaza del Charco area, where you’ll encounter all sorts of characters in costume dancing, marching, and partying. There’s also the Oktoberfest in late August which is known as the oldest beer festival in Spain!

Getting around – The buses are frequent enough to make getting around the resort easy. However, as it is the smallest municipality in Tenerife – just 3.36 square miles – many visitors might prefer to make their way around by foot. A Puerto de la Cruz holiday is perfect for relaxation and serene walks, but if you are looking to visit other resorts across the island you may prefer to opt for a taxi (which can be expensive) or renting a car.

Bambi Gourmet – You’ll find lip-smacking Mediterranean and Spanish dishes here and a range of different dietary options. The wine list is particularly good.

Edelweiss – For a reasonably priced meal that’s perfect for a casual dinner, try this cosy little eatery.

El Taller Seve Diaz – European, Spanish, fusion, and Mediterranean dining combine here for some of the tastiest food across the resort.

Playa el Bollullo – Beyond the banana plantations, this secluded beach is a hidden jewel.

Playa Jardin – A black-sand beach edged by exotic plants that’s famed for being the perfect place to relax.

Playa San Telmo –Playa San Telmo may not have much sand to relax on, but it’s pretty and you’ll find that time passes with the crashing of the crystal-clear waves against the rocks.

Playa Martianez – Serene, beautiful, and packed with watersports. The black sand is ideal for lying on and feeling the stress drift away, while the sea is warm and inviting.

Playa de los Roques – Walk the water trail – Sendero del Agua – and you’ll find this spectacular beach where the scenery is wonderful and the waves true forces of nature.
