Las Palmas is the largest resort of Gran Canaria; this large metropolis offers a fantastic cosmopolitan experience. Located at the top of the island, it is connected to the main airport, and the journey time between the two will take you around 20 minutes.
The city was founded in 1478 under the name ‘Real de Las Palmas’ when an invading Castillian army claimed the islands for the Crown. A war then ensued between them and the island’s original inhabitants, the Guanches.
Today Las Palmas is a cosmopolitan city, home to over 600,000 people. Along with Santa Cruz de Tenerife, it is the joint capital of the Canary Islands. With five beaches and a massive seaport, the city is perfect for swimming and a whole host of other water sports. All the beaches are lined with cafes, restaurants and shops, so you don’t have to walk far to find refreshment on a hot day.

Take a trip there for all of your shopping needs; you’re sure to find a fantastic selection of souvenirs to take back for friends and family. Relax from all of that shopping in the nearby Santa Catalina Park; ideal for resting your weary bones and enjoying a lovely glass of wine.
