Marmaris is one of Turkey’s most sun-kissed, fun-filled, family-friendly-but-still-party-packed resorts. It has everything you could want from a Turkey holiday, and more besides. Edged by a glorious coastline, you’ll have several kilometres of sandy or pebbly beaches to recline on, as well as a sapphire-blue sea teeming with exotic, colourful life.
The atmosphere is vibrant from dawn to dusk, with visitors haggling with locals in the market during the day, then in the evening revellers filling the bars and nightclubs to party and dance until morning. There’s also culture to explore in the old town, the buzzing bazaar, and of course the beautiful, ever-present mosques. Marmaris may be a holiday resort, but you’re sure to love its authentic Turkish feel.

Bright and fun-packed but equally good for relaxation, the Grand Cettia is a friendly 4* hotel with plenty of facilities. There’s lots to do and see, and it’s just 1km from the beach.
A 3* accommodation with two pools, a sun terrace, snooker table, and both a Turkish night and a BBQ night.
Lit by neon by night, the 4* Ideal Prime Beach Hotel is an impressive accommodation outside and in. There are shows and a mini disco 6 nights per week and regular live music too. The bars and restaurants are fabulous and offer both local and international flavours, and there’s enough room and things to do to entertain both families and couples looking to spend some time alone.
Family – There are plenty of family-friendly things to do and see in Marmaris, which has an excellent waterpark full of slides and waves, as well as bowling and mini golf. The colourful Dancing Fountains in Marmaris centre are spectacular for kids and adults alike, so make sure you plan to spend an evening or two eating dinner or sipping drinks by these beautiful water displays. There are also hotels with some great kids’ clubs and teen clubs, so if you want some time to relax by the pool in the sun while the little ones have fun, you’ll have come to the right place.
Couples – Marmaris is great for couples seeking exotic romance, natural beauty, and with the option of enjoying lively evenings out – the perfect blend of relaxation and an upbeat nightlife. You can take boat trips to nearby islands or rides around the bay, enjoyable evening walks throughout the city, and even a Marmaris Moonlight Cruise tour. If you’re both looking to be pampered, a Turkish bath will leave you refreshed, relaxed, and feeling like royalty. You’ll also find a great range of Adult Only and Adult Friendly hotels to choose from, if you’d prefer a child-free Turkey holiday.
Nightlife – If you are looking to party, Marmaris is a resort with pubs and nightclubs open until 5am. Marmaris Bar Street is the spot to visit to start your night out, which has pubs and discos, and everything in between. Down on the Uzunyali beachfront you’ll be able to sing your heart out at karaoke bars with happy hours, dance bars, and live music. If you fancy a more cultural evening out – or simply to start your night out with a little difference – a Turkish Night show features authentic and highly skilled belly dancers wearing glittering, vibrant costumes.
Activities – There is so much to do during a Marmaris holiday, whatever you are looking for. If you’re a thrill-seeking adventurer, expect scuba diving experiences, a buggy or jeep safari, go kart racing, white water rafting, canyoning, and – for the bravest out there – a paratrike flight. If you are more into something a little less adrenaline-fuelled, there’s the fun of the Aquadream Waterpark and the Atlantis Waterpark, horse riding, pampering in a Turkish bath or spa, a Turkish Night show, and picturesque private boat trips.
Culture – Marmaris has a history spanning back to ancient times, when the town was known as Physkos. The castle is an impressive fortress built during the Ottoman Empire, and features an archaeology museum and a history museum. Another historic landmark is the Bedesten covered market, which has a 500-year history and offers as much of an insight into the past as a museum. The Caravanserai of Hafsa Sultan is a roadside inn built for travellers and troops in 1545, which sells coffee and souvenirs today.
Annual events – There are plenty of festivals and events to enjoy. Marmaris’ holiday season generally runs from May to the middle of October. In May you can enjoy the Marmaris Maritime and Spring Festival in May, the International Marmaris Yacht Festival, and the Marmaris International Yacht Charter Show. In June or July, the Marmaris Cinema Festival takes place, where you’ll be able to see special screenings of both national and international films.
Getting around – The easiest way to get around Marmaris is by minibuses called dolmus, which are very reasonably priced. Taxis are also available, and while they are considered the expensive option they are still generally far cheaper than UK prices. You can also hire a car.
Great Corner Steak House – This family-friendly restaurant offers both European food and tasty Turkish bites to please everyone.
Jimmy’s Martinis – A highly-rated and much-loved place to eat, which serves up a varied menu and delicious cocktails.
Hacis Café – Good British food that tastes just like home and specialises in Parmos – delicious deep-fried meat covered in cheese and grilled.
White Lion – Friendly staff and well-priced bites make this restaurant a winner.
Samdan Restaurant – A varied set of foods are served up for low prices here. Great for fans of Italian, Turkish, seafood, European, and Mediterranean dining.
Marmaris Beach – This is the most popular and fun beach in Marmaris. It is the closest to the centre of Marmaris, and while there are more dazzling beaches nearby, it’s popular, fun, and the water is perfect for swimming.
Uzunyali Beach – The perfect place for snorkelling and peaceful dips in the crystalline waters.
Saranda Koyu – Scenic and picturesque, the sunsets here must be seen to be believed.
Icmeler Beach – It may be 5 miles away, but a visit to Icmeler Beach with its golden sand and perfect waters is always a treat. This picturesque strip of sand is also surrounded by deep-green hills, which are ripe for exploring.
