Birmingham Airport is located just a short distance from the city centre, being placed in the village of Bickenhill and being accessible by car, train, bus, coach, taxi, bike and even on foot. The airport's code is BHX and as of 2011 it is the seventh busiest airport in the UK, with around 8.6 million passengers travelling through it in 2010 and 2011 alone.
The airport works with a huge number of airlines, including Air France, bmibaby, Austrian, KLM, Lufthansa, Monarch, Pakistan International Airlines, Ryanair, Swiss, Thomas Cook Airlines, United, and Turkish Airlines.
There are two terminals at Birmingham Airport, each playing host to different airlines. Terminal One at Birmingham Airport has been recently refurbished to offer increased comfort for passengers with a new departure hall, arrivals hall and check-in area, as well as a number of executive lounges that have been redone. The Birmingham 4 Deck Lounge, Birmingham Aviance Lounge and Birmingham Servisair Lounge can all be used by passengers for a maximum of three hours prior to flying.
Terminal Two has no lounges, although there are two hotel airports close to the terminals should you choose to stay over – contact Coop Travel now to book a stay. This terminal has been nicknamed ‘The Eurohub’ because both national and international flights are available from there.
Birmingham Airport offers much in the way of facilities, with a large number of shops available such as Superdry, Accessorize, Duty Free and Dixons. There are also bars, restaurants and cafes at the airport, including Blanc et Noir Champagne and Wine Bar, The Meriden Bar & Restaurant and Costa.
There are religious and cultural facilities available at the airport for those that would like to pray in private. There is a lost property and baggage wrapping facility at the airport, along with baggage trolleys, an express lane for £3 per person, and free Wi-Fi throughout the terminals. Passengers will find a changing places toilet at the terminals, and there is special assistance available for those with reduced mobility should it be required.
There is a drop off point for vehicles outside the terminal, as well as short, medium and long stay parking available onsite. Motorcyclists will find dedicated parking spaces and there is an NCP car park at the airport for official valet parking.
