USA – Holiday Destination Information
Key Information: The United States of America is a country consisting of 50 states covering a large amount of North America. It is one of the world’s major countries and is known for its powerful leaders, fascinating cities and has the nickname ‘The Land of Opportunity’ due to the large amount of freedom and options it offers.
Ideal Time to Go: Due to the very large size of the USA, it is hard to pick a specific time that is best for holidaying as there are many states that are best for visiting during different times of the year.
For eastern states we recommend visiting in September-October as this provides beautiful sights with multi-coloured foliage and pleasant warm weather.
For western states we recommend having your holiday between April & October as these months provide great weather that allows you to have the optimal western USA holiday.
For mid-western states we recommend visiting during spring or autumn as the winters are very cold and might ruin your USA holiday but the summers are often unbearably hot.
Weather: There are 50 states in the USA so the climate varies widely throughout. Eastern & western coasts generally have very warm weather, particularly during summer months where their beaches are filled with holiday-goers looking to enjoy themselves on the sunny beaches. Florida is on the east coast and is the warmest of the USA states. Central states have a more typical weather pattern with dry hot summers and cold wet winters. The southern US states have hot summers and mild winters whilst the northern US states have hot summers and very cold, often snowy winters.
Flight Time: Direct flights from London to Washington DC (USA Capital) take roughly 8 hours
Time Difference: Mainland USA has four main time zones (Eastern, Central, Mountain & Pacific), with the East Coast having the smallest difference from GMT. e.g. Washington & New York are 5 hours behind UK time, New Orleans is 6 hrs behind, Santa Fe is 7 hrs behind and Los Angeles, San Francisco & Las Vegas are 8 hrs behind.
Currency: United States Dollar (USD - $)
Fun Fact: In the US, 100 acres of pizza are served each day!
Leave plenty of extra room in your suitcase for new clothes – clothes and shoes in the US tend to be much cheaper than in the UK so you’ll probably find yourself purchasing quite a lot of new items during your USA holiday.
The minimum age for purchasing/consuming alcohol in the USA is 21, although some states do allow consumtion under that age if accompanied by family members of the legal age. So if you're looking to party whilst on holiday, you should make sure you familiarise yourself with local laws on alocohol consumption.

The USA is a very interesting place with many amazing things to do and wonderful places to visit during your holiday, here are our top picks for places to visit during your holiday in the US:
Disney World (Orlando, Florida) – Of course Disney World was always going to be on this list, it is the perfect place for loads of family holiday fun in the USA. Bring your kids here and they’ll love you forever, you’ll also get to have plenty of fun for yourself with many of their amusement rides and attractions.
Statue of Liberty (New York) – This is one of the most famous American landmarks of them all and if you’re going to be holidaying in a close proximity to this great landmark then we definitely recommend visiting Liberty Island to admire it and maybe take a few photos with it.
Las Vegas (Nevada) – This is probably the best nightlife in the world, many people certainly think of it that way anyway. The Las Vegas Strip is famous all over the world for its crazy and alive atmosphere as well as its many casinos, clubs and attractions throughout.
How to Get There
Flights are available to many US states from airports all over the UK. We recommend looking for a direct flight to your holiday in the USA as this is often cheaper and much quicker. If there are no direct flights from your local airport to your desired US state then there’s most likely still the option of taking connecting flights due the popularity of the USA as a holiday destination.
