Caribbean – Holiday Destination Information
Key Information: The Caribbean is southeast of the North American mainland and the gulf of Mexico; the region consists of the Caribbean Sea, the islands it contains and the coasts that it is surrounded by.
Ideal Time to Go: The Caribbean offers warm weather of 24°C-29°C all year round, though that sunny weather can sometimes be combined with heavy rainfall. The best time of year to visit the Caribbean is December-April as this is when the islands tend to be dry and slightly cooler.
Weather: The temperature in the Caribbean is rather consistent and generally sits between 20°C and 33°C. The rainfall in the Caribbean isn’t so predictable; the islands can experience very heavy downfall and even hurricanes at certain times of the year, so it’s best to time your holiday carefully in order to avoid these wet spells. We recommend visiting between November & July for the least risk of having the weather interrupt your holiday.
Flight Time: Direct flights take less than 9 hours from London.
Time Difference: The Caribbean is 6 hours behind UK time.
Currency: Currency varies on each island but US Dollars (USD) are widely accepted throughout the Caribbean.
Fun Fact: The first James Bond film, Dr No, was filmed in Jamaica, which is also home to the Goldeneye estate, formerly owned by Ian Fleming, which now offers (very pricey!) boutique hotel accommodation.
Top Tip: Look for Caribbean package holidays in order to make your trip cheaper.
Places to Go in The Caribbean
Stingray City (Grand Cayman) – Shallow sandbars in the north of Grand Cayman where stingrays are found in vast amounts, tourists can interact with and pet the stingrays.
San Juan National Historic Site (San Juan) – This Caribbean national park is filled with heritage and, as the name implies, fine amounts of historical sites. This immense attraction can add a bit of culture to your holiday and won’t break the bank either with cheap tours costing less than £50.
Flamenco Beach (Culebra, Puerto Rico) – How about a day out on one of the world’s most famous beaches? Known worldwide for its pure beauty and relaxing sunny weather, this sandy paradise is the perfect getaway destination for your holiday.
Holiday Activities in the Caribbean
Today, there are Caribbean holidays catering for every kind of traveller, from young romantic couples looking for honeymoon destinations, to young singles looking for excitement and adventure. Cheap holidays to Caribbean destinations like Barbados and Trinidad offer a variety of family-orientated resorts, with silvery beaches, safe swimming waters and an array of things to see and do. A holiday to the Caribbean is the perfect destination for families, couples and young singles alike.
Caribbean holidays in Jamaica are all about fun and entertainment. Reverberating to the sounds of Bob Marley, this party-loving island offers everything from the white sands of Runaway Bay to the magnificent grandeur of Dunns River Falls. From scuba diving by day, to reggae jiving at night, the Caribbean offers a variety of activities to keep you busy throughout your holiday.
Caribbean islands like St Kitts and Grenada offer a totally different experience. St Kitts, in the Leeward Islands, has a mandate which forbids buildings being any taller than the surrounding palm trees and package holidays here tend to be decidedly low key. The dramatic volcanic landscape, abundant flora and fauna and colonial past make this an attractive option for newly-weds. Grenada is another popular option for those wanting relaxed, carefree Caribbean holidays in 2016.
From historic Antigua to bold Barbados, all inclusive Caribbean holidays have a resolutely colonial feel, infused with warmth and charm. At Co-operative Travel we have cheap Caribbean holidays in Trinidad, St Lucia and many other fabulous islands. To paraphrase Bob Marley: No worry, just fly.
How to Get There
You can get to the Caribbean from pretty much anywhere in the UK, however, a lot of flights from regional airports aren’t direct so flight times will likely take 2-3 hours longer. If you don’t already live in London but are willing to travel there then you may be able to get a direct flight and save a bit of time.
