Dublin City Breaks
From ghosts to Guinness, bargain city breaks to Dublin have something for everyone. One of the cheapest and most charming of our European city breaks, we at Co-operative Travel recommend a short break in the fair city of Dublin at any time of year.
Dublin manages to fit an awful lot into its compact size, so last minute Dublin city breaks will keep you busy. Divided by the picturesque River Liffey, Dublin is a graceful city rich in 18th century heritage, dominated by its towering castle. Many cheap Dublin city breaks are booked in the cultural quarter, on the south side of the river, but if you like things quiet look for breaks on the picturesque north bank.
Dublin package city breaks are typically booked in handsome boutique-style hotels, many of which are located in Temple Bar and the Trinity College district. Dublin has more museums than you could visit in a lifetime, but all Dublin city breaks should include a visit to the Guinness Storehouse Museum, located next to the famous brewery.
The city is famous for its neoclassical civic architecture, and a heritage map will point you in the direction of magnificent gems like Custom House, 18th century Mansion House (the Mayoral residence), and the beautiful GPO building, site of the 1906 Easter uprising. Many fine Georgian town houses can be seen in Merrion Square, and Christ Church Cathedral is a must. If you enjoy exploring the past, a cheap visit to Dublin is perfect.
With more parks and green spaces than any other European city, breaks in springtime are perfect for exploring the leafy environs of places like Phoenix Park. Dublin package city breaks are great for children too. Take a friendly Ghost Walk to meet the spirit of Molly Malone; charge round Dublin Castle, or let off steam at the National Wax Museum. If you want lively weekend breaks, try Temple Bar, where the pubs come alive with traditional music and dancing once the shops in Nassau Street close. You’ll find a huge variety of breaks to choose from with us at Co-operative Travel.
